On Positive Journalism

"...for all its faults, the Philippines is still a country blessed by Divine Providence and worthy to be your homelad."

NEWSPAPER editors (except those who are blatantly based) everytime they issue out their paper need to do a balancing act to avoid the risk of being tagged as either a government propaganda machine and losing its credibility if they consistently picture the Philippines as a rosy place to live in or run the peril pof being branded as bothanti-government and negativist if they focus on the bad side of the Philippine scene.

Here, at Pinoy Balita, we, besides running a non-profit operation, have been fortunate to have chosen a readership that thirst for positive news from the Philippines. So, in conformity to the wishes of ur readers and without much pressure to run a financially viable newspaper, we can print news that show the good of the Filipinos as well as activities or events that contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the less privileged members of our society. We touch on news that bring pride to the hearths of OFWs whenever they read about Filipinos like boxer Pacquiao and billiard king Bata Reyes who make the country proud by winning in international competitions. However, there are instances when we have also to deliver accounts of national tragedies like the the Leyte landslide and sinking ships that snuff the lives of our countrymen and bring grief and tears to our countrymen and readers. We also print out triumphs over the bad elements like the capture of notorious kidnappers, robbers and other criminal rogues. Basically, we tell news that show the Filipino's our courage and determination, as a people, to conquer local, global as well as natural difficulties and disasters so that our OFWs, continually beset by homesickness and anxiety about the families they've left behind, can be motivated to constantly hold on to their dreams and hopes of coming back to their loved loved ones and live with them an a better and brighter life in their homeland.

Yes, worrisome and trgic news exist in the Philippines! But for every band there are ten good ones that stay unprinted. So, for those who want unpleasant news about the Philippines, let the other newspapers whet your appetite while we at Pinoy Balita will concentrate on the news that bring positive feelings about your country and your countrymen. Pinoy Balita's news pages will always be filled with stories about victories of Filipinos over difficulties, acts of kindness by Filipinos to their compatriots as well as foreingers and other accounts showing the potentials and qualities of the Philippines to be great again.

We will stick to the positive news to keep reminding the Filipinos that, for its faults, the Philippines is still a country more blessed by Divine Providence and worthy to be their homeland. We want Filipinos, despite the negative things said against their motherland, to be proud and grateful. We want Filipinos to be proud and thankful for being born in a country protected annually from a three-month harsh winter and a three-month fruitless autumn. We want Filipinos to thank God who has blessed the Philippines with a year-round abundance of sunshine and water. Filipinos must thank Him for even in its hottest sunny season, the Philippines and its inhabitants have not experienced the high temperatures that other places like California suffer annually-the killer heat wave.

Thus, by bringing these positive news to YOU (OFWs) and letting you realize the countless blessings showered by God on us, we, at UPAK, hope that your hearts will be touched and encouraged to join us in our efforts to unite YOU and other blessed OFWs and hand in hand thank the Almighty by sharing His blessings with the less fortunate like some of your fellow OFWs, their loved ones, their community and eventually your country.
